Spring Break 2014

For 12 days over Spring break, I returned to Rome as a part of an Italian Humanism and Renaissance course.
In addition to classes where we studied "women in medieval and early humanistic literature by men who used them as objects of their artistic works," we travelled around Tuscany and Rome to see these artistic representations in person.
It wasn't all fun and games though...we were also allotted free time to wander around the cities and go out drinking. It was definitely special to experience Rome with a group of people who have never been there before. I was more than eager to lead the way
Other cities include: Florence, Siena, San Sepolcro, Monterchi, Arezzo, Assisi, Cortona

Spring 2013

A quick, weekend trip with my lovely roommates from Milan, Lauren & Mariah. We spent our nights at the Macao Rooms and spent our days revisiting my favorite places in my home away from home. A day trip to Ostia beach was also included. Some of the best Roman ruins are just outside the city of Rome. Though we went to Ostia Antica for the beach, it is also where the second best ruins are in Italy (first being Pompeii). The best way to get to there is by a local train, which leaves from the Piramide station, and takes about 30 minutes. After getting off at Ostia Antica's station, use the blue footbridge to cross the road and walk down Via della Stazione di Ostia Antica until you see an entrance on your left. Two more stops on the train to Ostia Lido and you can walk through town to the the local beaches (some of them free).

Fall 2011

This is where I get sappy. Fall of 2011 was my first time studying abroad in college. I was lucky enough to experience this with 23 of my best friends. Through a program at our university, the 24 of us, along with two teachers, spent 4 months in Rome studying inside the Vatican. Yes, inside the Vatican. We held our classes at Pontifica Università Urbaniana. A school for priests and nuns. Although our school was holy, not much else was. We enjoyed exploring the Italian nightlife and spent our weekends travelling around Europe. With different friends, I visited Spain, England, the Netherlands, Czech Republic and France.
My time in Rome was unforgettable along with the people who I got to share it with.

Going out in Rome > Going out in the US
Back in the States, "going out" is synonymous with binge drinking, house parties, and mornings after full of regret. In Rome, "going out" was a different adventure every night. Although there was still a lot of drinking (we were excited to legally purchase alcohol), there were also late night trips to Old Bridge for gelato or to Chicken Hut for nutella crepes. It's just as easy to take a late night stroll through the city as it is to head out for drinks at the Abbey Theater or karaoke at Scholar's.

If you're looking to go out and dance:
Testaccio is an area near the collosseum with plenty of clubs
In the summer, there are lines of outdoor venues (bars/clubs) along the river near Castello
Hang out in Camp de Fiori from 11pm on to catch a promoter who will send you in the right direction

Whatever you choose to do, make the most of it. The eternal city will give you memories to last a lifetime.
