Okay, this is the cutest thing ever. Yesterday Laura lost one of her front teeth. I assumed that Italian children, like Americans, put their teeth under their pillow for the tooth fairy. But when I asked about the fatina dei denti she gave me a puzzled look and asked what a fairy would do with a tooth. Instead of a tooth fairy, they have Topino, the little mouse.
When it came to be bedtime she asked me to follow her into the kitchen.
Spread out on the counter was a note Per il Topino next to a little glass of water and a little plate of cheese. (Her tooth on the cup)
Of course the next morning I was woken up by squeals and running at 7am when she realized that Topino had come and gone. In his wake, he left a trail of cheese crumbs and a response to Laura.
"Thank you Laura
Excellent dinner I was hungry and thirsty. Beautiful teeth.
The Little Mouse of Teeth"
My favorite part was the little ladder he left after he climbed on top of the cup to switch her tooth for 2£. What a good Mamma.
